About the Journal

The Annals of Tropical Research (Ann. Trop. Res. | ATR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal established in 1979 by Visayas State University. The journal is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary and translational research that addresses the unique environmental, agricultural, biological, animal health, and public health challenges affecting tropical regions and the communities that depend on them.

ATR operates under a fully open-access publishing model, is a signatory of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), and is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The journal is also indexed in major international indexing and abstracting databases, including Scopus, CABI, EBSCO, and FAO AGRIS. ATR is included in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) journal list of the Australian Research Council (Journal ID: 5237) and is recognized by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Published semiannually in June and December, the journal is fully funded by Visayas State University (VSU) and has no article processing or publication fees.

Aims and Scope

The Annals of Tropical Research aims to disseminate high-quality scientific findings, innovations, and evidence-based insights arising from research and development initiatives relevant to tropical ecosystems and societies. The journal particularly emphasizes studies that contribute to sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, food and nutrition security, climate resilience, animal and human health, environmental sustainability, and community well-being in tropical regions. Therefore, ATR shall serve as a platform for local and international researchers and practitioners to share science-based findings relevant to tropical upland, lowland, coastal, and marine ecosystems, advancing knowledge and enabling sustainable solutions.
